Inside the Circle
The core activity of each Sankofa Circle session is a hands‑on, art‑making project that is specifically designed to invite dialogue around topics such as:
§ Reducing the Impact of Stress,
§ Effectively Expressing Your Boundary Needs,
§ Raising the Bar on Self-Nurturing,
§ Strengthening Your "Trust" Muscle,
§ Starting A New Dialogue with Your Body,
§ Setting Personal Healing Goals, and
§ Using Language to Express Your Personal Power
A holistic sequence of supporting activities, such as reflective journaling, meditation, visualizations, story-sharing, relaxation exercises, affirmations, music, yogic movement, and sacred ceremony surround the art‑making.
The artwork that is created during this process then becomes a symbolic, visual, and powerful reminder of that which each woman wishes to create, or bring more of, into her life. Women have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative process working with clay, paper collage, beads, fiber, paint and other mixed media.
No previous art experience is needed to participate.

The word Sankofa represents an Adinkra symbol called “the bird of passage”.
It means "go back and fetch it” and it reflects our intention
to help women connect with those aspects of their spirit
that may have been diminished or lost through trauma or distress.
